Bolsover Little Castle is an exquisite miniature house or lodge built in 1612 on the site of an earlier medieval castle by Sir Charles Cavendish as a family retreat from his nearby principal seat at Welbeck. The lavishly decorated interiors featured fine paintings and wall-hangings with elaborate marble fireplaces and ornate ceilings. English Heritage commissioned me to produce two cutaway reconstruction illustrations of Bolsover Castle; the Little Castle (1630) and the Terrace Range (1670) for publication in a new visitor guidebook (ISBN 978 1 84802 111 2).
